Affiliate Disclaimer
What is an affiliate disclaimer and why do I care?
An affiliate disclaimer is to inform the user that a website has something to gain from an action you perform at the website. The benefits from the action performed by the user is usually monetary in nature but could be any kind of benefit or resource that the website receives through the actions of the users on the website. The reason you should care about an affiliate disclaimer is because a link/opinion that you are shown on a website could be biased because of the incentives that they receive from the link which means a website could give false information in the hope you will perform an action solely to receive an incentive from the sponsor.
Pros of Affiliate Links
The main benefit of affiliate links is to give publishers a way to monetize their website so they can pay their bills for the website and whatever else they need to provide the resources necessary to build the site but also to maintain and operate a scalable and long term site. If a user clicks on a sponsored link it in no way effects the services or products that are offered at the website.
Cons of Affiliate Links
This is where trust is involved to keep yourself protected from publishers that are producing content strictly for the monetary gains that will be received and having no interest in helping the users. Monetary gains from a website should not be the main intention of a person creating content to publish.unless it is a completely commerce based site.
My 2 Cents
Transparency is considered to be one of the most important things that you can show and provide end users with any website or online resource. It basincally comes down to that people don’t want to be lied to and would just prefer the truth about the information that they are presented so they can make a judgement call for themselves about how they feel about a business. I am going to work very hard at showing the entire process of affiliate marketing through the My Journey Blog.
